Management webinars for Scotland’s childcare providers
Overview
CJM Lumina was appointed by the Scottish Government to provide a national, widespread series of workshops and advisory services to Scotland’s childcare sector.
Brief
To better support the country’s childcare sector, the Scottish Government sought to provide targeted training to nursery managers and childminders across the country, covering a range of topics. Against a challenging economic backdrop, post-covid and post-Brexit, the assistance was designed to strengthen the commercial operations of these businesses, so that they may remain sustainable for the future.
As well as delivering training in topics pertinent to that sector, the support was also designed to point providers to key support such as the government’s Childcare programme, and other projects such as the Scottish Rural Childminding Partnership.
Delivery
The size and scope of the project was vast, so a pilot was run to test CJM Lumina’s delivery model, followed by a four-month rollout after the pilot’s success. We refined the content for rollout based on key feedback provided on the pilot. Our all-encompassing package of training and advisory services included:
- Delivery of enhanced and targeted training from the current Business Gateway National Webinars
- Childminder one-hour advisory sessions
- Delivery of 10 courses (delivered over four months)
- 200 one-to-one initial reviews, conducted with businesses
- 120 one-day expert sessions, conducted with businesses
- Aftercare to all attendees
- Reporting on feedback and outcomes at a government level
To ensure a better uptake of the training, we delivered across a wide timeline to fit with the needs of the sector, which meant delivering workshops and one-to-ones in evenings and at weekends.
Results
The programme delivered by CJM Lumina tangibly improved the understanding of available support for the sector. Through a carefully crafted series of touchpoints, we delivered long-term learnings to staff and organisations, supported the enrolment of 100 new childminders, and provided vital support to future-proof Scotland’s much-needed nurseries.
